The buttons on the toolbar are big and distracting, so I want to make them smaller.

By default, the toolbar buttons are slightly larger than other software because the icons are 24×24 in size and have text.
The size of the icon and the display of the text can be changed in the preferences.
If you resize the icon to 16×16 and set it to not display text, it will change to a button similar to other software.
